About Rancho Penasquitos

Rancho Penasquitos is a community that celebrates outdoor living in the northeast region of San Diego, California. Residents enjoy the opens spaces and trails that allow for horseback riding, biking, and hiking.

Rancho Penasquitos is often referred as PQ. This community offers many amenities and a variety of floor plans. The Poway Unified School District serves this community with highly ranked facilities like Deer Canyon Elementary School, Mesa Verde Middle School, and Westview High School. There are hundreds of private institutions like the Calvary Christian Academy, Escondido Adventists Academy, the Montessori American School, and Halstrom Academy. Public universities include the University of California (UCSD) and San Diego State University (SDSU) as well as the San Diego Community College District.

This suburban city was named after the county’s first Mexican land grant. In Spanish, the word penasquitos means “little cliffs.” Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve covers seven miles and about 4,000 acres of canyons. It is one of the United States’ largest parks of its kind. Other recreation venues in this region include Black Mountain Open Space Park, PQ Skate Park, the Canyonside Recreation Center, the Hilltop Recreation Center, and the Twin Trails Neighborhood Park.

While residents enjoy spending time with nature there are also several shopping areas nearby. This community is close to employment centers, freeways, stores, and restaurants. Across Ted Williams Parkway to the northwest is the Palacio del Mar Golf Course and the Grand Golf Course which features a Tom Fazio designed course, lodging, and a gourmet restaurant in a Mediterranean-style resort.

San Diego is California’s second largest city and the nation’s eighth. Its economy relies on tourism, manufacturing, international trade, and military defense related activities.
